Mmm...Barrrrbecue! - The Pork Shoppe

Photos from the recently opened PORK SHOPPE

They ran out of brisket at lunch-time. Oh well. Something to go back for.

It was a 'to-go' order. Had to get home to watch the NL finally win an All-Star Game.

ribs, pulled pork, fresh-cut fries, jalepeno corn bread, mac 'n cheese,
with sweet bbq (hints of prune and citrus), tangy carolina (best of the 3), and spicy (almost like chili) sauce.

Roscoe Village Burger Fest 2010 - formerly Belmont Arts & Music Festival

The 'It Takes a Village' Burger from The Village Tap.
They ran out of bacon (noooooooooooo!) and chili by the time I got there,
but still a tasty burger with the ample remaining toppings.

Peppercorn and Grilled Onion burger from Select Cut Steakhouse.
Out of all the burgers I tried, this was my favorite.

It got a little rainy.

BIG & little's - Fish Tacos, Truffle Fries and MORE!

939 N Orleans, Chicago, IL, 60610

HOURS
Mon - Fri: 11:00 am - 9:00 pm
Sat: 12:00 pm - 9:00 pm

There are two guys cooking in a little tiny space,
making some of the tastiest food you will ever eat.
Fish Tacos are their specialty, but as you can see on the chalkboard menu below,
they have a few other things you might not want to pass up.

The french fries are freshly made, and perfectly prepared.
(no franken-fries here! HOORAY!)
They're even better if you order the 'Truffle' version for $1.50 more.

If you aren't in the mood for seafood tacos, they make a stellar cheeseburger,
and if like me, you also worship at the altar of all fish battered and fried,
you will not be disappointed by the molten-hot fish and chips
(but give them a minute or three to cool down).

I'm not going to wax poetically about details.
You just need to go and experience the food yourself.
Seriously... GO!
NOW!
Why are you still here?

Square Bar - the other red meat!

You've heard the stories about that heavy metal burger place over on Belmont, and you made the trek out there only to find out that your wait would be 2 1/2 hours until you can get a table.

Like many people, you put your name on the list and hop over to the slightly less crowded bar across the street for a drink.

Then you notice that some of patrons of this fine establishment are eating some really good looking food...  and out of the corner of your eye, you see it:

a burger that looks really really good!
So you make a note of it in your brain to come back here to eat next time you're in the area.

I came back, and boy was I glad I did!
GREAT FREAKIN' BURGER!
Next time, I will go back and take pictures to post on here,
and I AM GOING back for sure, because I got some
incredible discounts from Living Social!
If you're lucky enough to read this post before the offer is over,
you too can get $40 worth of Square Bar goodness for only $20!!! from Living Social!

p.s. - one minor note: The french fries were fresh cut and shoestring skinny, but a bit on the soggy side when I went. Just make sure to ask politely if they can make sure the fries are crispy, or better yet... order the sweet potato fries! They are crinkle cut and awesome!

** followup... the second time I went, the fries were perfectly crispy... so must have been a fluke that first time (see photos on the followup post).
